In two articles published by Enrique Canchola Martínez in Sabersinfin.com, the importance of amazement in learning was addressed and analyzed.
According to Canchola, wonder is a fundamental mental capacity that structures emotions and modulates personality¹. It is crucial for the psychological and mental life of individuals, as it generates intense and sublime motivations.
Amazement is also essential in the construction of knowledge. It acts as an inducer of questions about the world and about oneself, allowing people to establish their awareness and perception of the environment¹.
In addition, wonder is a key component of the scientific method, as it provokes observation and curiosity, which are the first steps in formulating hypotheses and conducting experiments¹.
However, it is important to mention some ways of applying wonder in daily learning to acquire associative and meaningful learning that induces percepts and knowledge that not only build and promote memory, but also stimulate reflection.
Here are some techniques that can foster wonder and learning:
a) Ensure that the contents of the class are novel and attractive, creating an environment where people participate by asking questions “why?” or “how?”, dedicate time to research to answer these questions, which can lead to surprising discoveries.
b) Use information and communication technologies, AI (artificial intelligence), demonstrations and practices that allow for easier understanding of abstract concepts
c) To promote the academic model of collaborative construction of learning (MACCA), which allows experiments or group activities to be carried out, where what has been learned is applied and reinforces learning in a practical way
d) Tell inspiring stories of scientific adventures, how researchers made scientific discoveries, and their importance to humanity.
These strategies and others that can be inspiration for the teacher, without a doubt, make learning more dynamic and exciting, they can awaken amazement and curiosity in an atmosphere of joy, respect and tolerance, which by the way are fundamental tasks of the school and commitment to education.
In summary, amazement is very important, since it not only enriches the learning experience, but also encourages creativity and imagination, essential elements for the intellectual, emotional and social development of people.
